Led Zeppelin

The best bands that ever existed. When I was a kid, I never really liked music, until I laid hands on my flute and soon after a keyboard. It was like a new door had opened for me. Slowly my interests grew to harmonica and guitar. I really got liking to rock and metal due to its heavy guitar usage. It simply blew my mind. It wasn't until late in my rock music appreciation that I got to hear Led Zeppelin and that totally changed the way I felt music. They are simply awesome and genuises in music composition. Each and every song of theirs have a very deep structure within. Drums, bass, lead and the song. I don't need to tell you the history behind the group but if you are interested you can go to Led Zeppelin Home Page

I think each and every member of led zep had a very interesting contribution. Listening to rock nowadays you see generic riffs, rhythms, beats and melody. If you listen to led zep you know why I say so. From the mind blowing drum beats, to the deep stomach pounding bass, to the extraordinary harmonic lead to the very interesting vocal, you will find every bit of led zep unique. Their most famous "Stairway to heaven" is still the heavily learnt song by all guitar enthusiasts, but true led zep fans think every song needs to be learnt!! :).

Led Zep continue to inspire me in my long journey to learn guitars and someday do justice to their songs with my playing. I remember the good old days during my college when I listened to them all the time on my mp3 player, traveling in the bus, doing my projects on the computer. If I am tired or stresses that is all I need to listen to, to relax me. I just wished that their run wasn't so short lived. To me, and for every music and led zep fan, they will continue to live forever.

Music

Now most of you out there likes music. Of course everyone has different tastes. Music is my life. I need it while I exercise. I need it while I am working. I need it while I am sitting home doing nothing :). I first got interested around my 6th grade when I was "volunteered" to be part of the school band. I started learning the flute and caught on real quick and I was simply impressed by how much you can have fun with it. I started playing drums in my band which lasted till my 7th grade and then no more school band as I went to the high school. However the passion of music remained in me. Then I was given this amazing gift of a small casio keyboard by my elder sister and then I just went bonkers. I caught on that so quick that I was playing songs in 2 months. Not to be boasting here but I learnt everything on my own watching others play and my faithful ears. So far my music instruments collection include 1 keyboard, 2 fluts (scale D and G), two guitars (picture below - the electric one was a gift from me to me on my 23rd birthday :) and the acoustic one was from my father when I got nice grades in my 12th so that I can go to a nice engineering college) and 3 harmonicas. I however do wish to learn guitar from scratch so as to improve upon my self learnt technique.

I have always been fond of sharing good music with everyone. So I had a nice little band back in undergrad. We did perform in one of the annual celebrations however I missed out on my last semester as I was down sick and couldn't go to college for 5 months. Back in NC State where I did my masters we created a big music group where we had a lot of fun. It was a group of very very talented people. They still continue to play and I really miss playing with them. We christened our group Aalaap. I learned a lot while I was part of the group and it has become a great part of my life.

I have always liked to create some nice music and it is my dream to create a nice home studio and a band so I can write and record music. One day maybe I will make good enough music to make it into an album. Since I am mostly left alone right now I take help from number of software tools. The one that really stands out is the Fruity loops which lets you create beats and melodies while you can play your instrument. I have some recording setup on my computer so I can record this together on multiple channels and create songs. If you are one like me you will love this software.

Getting back to my music taste. I mostly like rock, metal, jazz kinds of genre. Lately I have been attracted to trance music which can be good sometimes. Here are few of my favorite bands

1) Led Zeppelin
2) Metallica
3) AC/DC
4) Iron Maiden
5) Pink Floyd
6) U2
7) Tool
8) A Perfect Circle
9) Black Sabbath
10) Def Leppard
11) Dire Straits
12) Infected Mushroom
13) Enigma
14) Bon Jovi
15) Coldplay
16) Deep Purple
17) The Corrs
18) Joe Satriani
19) Steve Vai
20) Ywngste Malmsteen (The above three are called G3: the best 3 guitarists according to me)

I guess I might have forgotten some of them :). I like to play guitar from the songs of most of these people. To help me out is this wonderful site: Ultimate Guitar and when you find yourself lost on a chord you can go here: Chord Find

Music can be relaxing, invigorating and exciting. It comes in all flavors of life and you can choose it suit your mood. I hope in the future I create a tune that will touch everyone's hearts.

Television

So you might wonder how can television be anybody's muse, eh? If you know me then you wouldn't wonder :). I have always been a big fan of television. Watching every kind of movies and TV series. Now excess TV can make you a couch potato so beware!! I am allowed to be a couch potato on sunday 'cos I work very hard during weekdays *rolls eyes*. Besides watching a few good shows after a strenous day at work helps a lot. Here are some shows I like to watch.

1. Family Guy : Now if you haven't watched this show you have missed out. This is real funny. Main characters in the show are Peter, Lois, Chris, Meg, Stewie Brian, Cleveland, Quagmire and Joe. Read about them on their webbie.

2. South Park: Matt and Trey's genius creation at work. Whatever I say here is injustice to this show. You gotta check out the show to appreciate it.

3. Futurama: It's about a guy called Fry who got transported 1000 years into the future. Bring back the show and have some new episodes.

4. Stargate SG-1: This is an adaptation of the original Stargate movie starring Kurt Russell and James Spader. Sci-Fi has done a really amazing job of creating this series. Real fun to watch.

These are all that I can think of now. If I do remember more I will add 'em to the list. Now you can see my taste is a nice mix. I sometimes catch few episodes of Nip/Tuck, ER, etc. Of course one of the favorite passtime is channel surfing but hey who doesn't like that!!!

FP?

Technically no!!! I have created and deleted 3 previous blogs over the period of 2 years. Call me uninterested or you can call me too busy to write? Ok, ok you can call me lazy. Which of course I won't deny. It is 2:30 in the morning and I am creating my "first" post in my "first" blog. Isn't that great. Now I get to bore you with all my musings, troughs and crests in my life. To explain the title, FP means "First post". Why did I choose that? Well I am an avid slashdotter so if you are one you would know but if you don't then there is this "nerd" news site that publishes "geeky" news and then you get to discuss about it. Now thousands of people like me will be hitting refresh on slashdot.org every 5 seconds to see if a new story has come out and then rush to get the first post in. Well I have never been successful so here is my pitiful attempt to get it on my blog *sigh*. Well, signing out for now and look out for more FP.. er no SP,TP, etc. (you get it, right?) in the future.
